"Absolutely ravishing. A seriously beautiful musical" - Evening Standard
Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine were inspired to create Sunday In The Park With George by Georges Seurat's pointillist masterpiece A Sunday Afternoon On The Island Of La Grande Jatte. The musical takes two distinct halves: the first, set in 1884, sees the objects of Seurat's painting come to life in a world where art is everything; the second is set a century later, as Seurat's great-grandson strives to find inspiration amid New York's contemporary art world.
"A brilliant production of Sondheim's best musical: spectacular, beautifully acted, moving, acid, funny, glamorous and intelligent, the thinking person's musical. You will never look at a painting in the same way" - Sunday Times
"Could scarcely be bettered. Seamless staging, cool clean design and enchantingly witty animated projections. A brilliantly slick show' - Daily Telegraph
"Breathtakingly original" - Independent on Sunday
