Now in its 2nd record-breaking year, Oliver! is one of the most beloved British musicals, vividly bringing to life Dickens' timeless characters with its ever-popular story of the boy who asked for more.
Russ Abbot, one of the most popular entertainers in Britain starts as Fagin alongside Kerry Ellis as Nancy and Steven Hartley as Bill Sikes. Russ is no stranger to Oliver! having played the role of Fagin at the Palladium, Theatre Royal and on tour!
With a cast and orchestra of over 100, the sensational score is full of Lionel Bart's irresistible songs including Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You've Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I'd Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah, As Long As He Needs Me and many more.
Cameron Mackintosh is delighted to announce that award-winning actor Griff Rhys Jones will return to the role of ‘Fagin’ in the spectacular production of Lionel Bart’s smash hit musical OLIVER! at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Griff will play the role for 5 weeks only over the Christmas season from Monday 6 December 2010 until Saturday 8 January 2011, when the show ends its record breaking run. Russ Abbot, currently playing the role of ‘Fagin’, will leave at the end of his contract on Saturday 4 December 2010.
On Saturday 13 November, Kerry Ellis will not be performing the role of 'Nancy' in "Oliver!" at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Kerry will be performing at the "Festival of Remembrance" at the Royal Albert Hall.
This annual Festival commemorates and honours all those who have lost their lives in conflicts and is hosted by The Royal British Legion and attended by the Royal Family and Simultaneously broadcast on BBC1.
Kerry will be performing songs from her hit album, "Anthems".
For these two performances only, Jodie Prenger will return to the role of 'Nancy'. Since winning the role of 'Nancy' through the BBC television series, "I'd Do Anything", Jodie won critical acclaim for her portrayal, winning the Theatregoers' Choice Whatsonstage Award for Best Supporting Actress in a musical. She has since played the 'Lady of the Lake' in the UK tour of "Spamalot", hosted the National Lottery on numerous occasions, as well as standing in for both Elaine Paige and Paul O'Grady on BBC Radio 2. In addition to this, she will be releasing an album early next year, is currently touring the UK with John Barrowman, and will be starring in the new BBC1 comedy series "Candy Cabs".
