Julie Atherton: No Space For Air

West End star Julie Atherton celebrates the first anniversary of her acclaimed album No Space for Air with her biggest solo concert yet, featuring special guests including Daniel Boys and Richard Fleeshman.

Performing tracks from the album alongside songs from the shows that have shaped her illustrious career, Julie and her guests will be accompanied by a live ten-piece band and on-stage choir. Emmy Award winning composer Lance Hornewill make a guest appearance to accompany Julie and the band for two of his songs, and Brit composer Michael Brucewill helm a live performance of the international YouTube sensation ‘Portrait of a Princess’, which he wrote to showcase Julie’s innate comedic talent.

For Atherton aficionados, the concert will feature songs from Avenue Q, The Last 5 Years, Through the Door and Ordinary Days, and some unexpected numbers will receive the unique Atherton treatment.

Best known for creating the roles of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q, and her role as Cathy in Jason Robert Brown’s The Last 5 Years, Julie is one of the most prolific and successful young musical theatre stars in the West End, having previously played Sophie in musical Mamma Mia! and Serena in Fame. She is also an experienced concert artist, having headlined numerous musical engagements at venues as diverse as the Donmar Warehouse and the Royal Albert Hall.

Julie launched her second solo album, No Space for Air, at the Delfont Room at the Prince of Wales Theatre in June 2010, following which she made her North West solo debut at Manchester’s infamous Band on the Wall. She arrives at the Apollo following acoustic dates at The Pheasantry in Chelsea.

PRESS QUOTES

“Today's leading lady of new musicals." - Sunday Express

“Her second stunning solo album showcases a series of new songs and new composers. Musical theatre is in safe hands when promoted as brilliantly as this."  -Mark Shenton

"Atherton is a good enough singer to make us uncharacteristically jealous. If the hidden track doesn’t make you stop what you’re doing then you’re probably not entirely human."  - Pink Paper
