About Sinéad Rushe: Talk- Drama between Theatre and Dance

A talk by Sinéad Rushe, followed by a discussion with Guilherme Botelho, artistic director of Alias Dance Company.

Sinéad Rushe, theatre director and Lecturer in Acting and Movement at Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, will analyse several works in the Sadler’s Wells programme including Sideways Rain by Alias and Study #3 by The Forsythe Company. Drawing on recent interviews with the choreographers and filmed extracts of their work, she will reflect on the elusive interface between dance and theatre, and consider the elements that constitute an experience of drama. The talk is followed by a discussion between Sinéad and Guilherme Botelho.

Sinéad is the author of Michael Chekhov's Acting Technique: A Practitioner's Guide (forthcoming from Methuen, 2014). She recently directed Gogol's Diary of a Madman at Sherman Cymru, Out of Time, a dance-theatre work with Colin Dunne at The Pit, Barbican and the Baryshnikov Arts Centre (New York; nominated for a 2010 Olivier Award, 2009 Dance Critics' Circle Award) and Something or Nothing with Guy Dartnell at The Place Theatre.

Born in Brazil, Guilherme Botelho danced for ten years with the Ballet at the Grand Theatre of Geneva, Switzerland before setting up his own dance company, Alias, which has become renowned internationally for their striking, unusual works.
