Having recently celebrated their 60th anniversary, this dance company continues to go strong with their exciting new works, which has a limited 10-day run at Sadler’s Wells! Programme C is comprised of 4 pieces.
What to expect from Alvin American Dance Theater's Programme C at Sadler's Wells
With 60 years of outstanding pieces, the show goes on, and incredible works continue to flow from these trailblazers. For this new production, they present a flood of exciting new works along with modern classics in an exciting mixed programme that demonstrates why they’re at the top of their league with their unmatched skill.
Programme C opens with a new work from multi-talented choreographer Darrell Grand Moultrie. It is followed by Members Don’t Get Weary which is dancer and new rising star choreographer Jamar Robert’s abstract look at having the blues set to the music of John Coltrane. In celebration 100 years since the birth of Ella Fitzgerald, Robert Battle creates a head-spinningly fast duet to match the pace of the singer’s ‘Airmail Special’ before the grand finale.
Revelations, widely considered Alvin Ailey’s masterpiece, and the company’s signature piece, will end each of the shows. This piece is performed as a closing prayer which deviates between grief and elation as it explores the cultural heritage of African-American’s spirituality. The performance is accompanied by an emotional score of gospel music and blues.
