The true story of Fast

Fast is based on a true story from 19th century America, set in Wilderness Heights, ‘Dr’ Linda Hazzard opens her clinic up to the public. Inducing tingles up your spine is a parallel in which this isolated region of the Pacific Northwest seems all too familiar to society today. The modern world is used to the likes of influencers and celebrities promoting and flogging diet pills and protein shakes, but in the year 1910 when Hazzard presents a fasting cure, the press are gripped, and the nation are divided. Fast explores the drastic consequences of the fasting cure, whilst the play takes a look at ‘Dr’ Linda Hazzard and the complex and captivating response to her and her public clinic. Was she being slandered purely for being a woman in a man’s world or is there something darker beneath the surface?

Fast’s journey so far

Kate Barton’s Fast is produced by the award-winning Digital Drama at the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals in 2018. It was selected to be a part of WINDOWS at Brighton Fringe Festival as well as having been nominated for Best New Play 2018 by New Writing South. The thrilling drama comes to Park Theatre October 2019 for a strictly limited engagement and tickets are likely to sell fast. Given its previous sell-out runs, the production is likely to bring in big audiences eager to be drawn in by this parallel version of our society that reflects the anxieties of clean eating and fasting fads.
