Michel Legrand Remembered showing at the Royal Festival Hall in London's Southbank

Michel Legrand's death in January has turned this concert from a celebration of his international acclaim into a tribute to the longlasting impact he has had on 20th-century music. Legrand is a 3-time Oscar and 5-time Grammy Award winner. His skills as a jazz pianist and composer are honoured by powerful arrangements of some of his greatest hits, the likes of which include ‘The Windmills of Your Mind’, ‘Ray Blues’, ‘Summer of 42’, ‘The Umbrellas of Cherbourg’, ‘Dingo Rock’ and ‘Yentl’. The memorable melodies he has left behind have had a lasting effect on the history of jazz, song, and film music.

Legrand began his career as an accompanist to Maurice Chevalier and went on to head the Frech new wave. He is known for his collaboration with Jean-Luc Godard and Jacques Demy who he teamed with to invent a new genre of film music.

Michel Legrand Remembered performed by Ronnie Scott's Orchestra

Legrand was associated with Ronnie Scott's orchestra for many years. His well-known trio often appeared at the club. In 2017, the relationship between Michel Legrand and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Orchestra was solidified after a sell-out four-day residency that got rave reviews.

Legrand famously worked with jazz greats like Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Phil Woods and Stéphane Grappelli, big names in classical music like Kiri Te Kanawa, Jessye Norman, Maurice André and easy listening stars Yves Montand, Barbra Streisand, and Charles Aznavour. His songs have been sung by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Louis Armstrong and Liza Minnelli.
