What’s different about this Peter Pan production?

The tale of Peter Pan is widely popular and well-loved by the masses. There have been numerous different retellings, including films, Disney’s animation, and of course, numerous theatre productions. It’s the classic story of the one child that didn’t grow up and his adventures with Wendy, Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys, and his ongoing feud with Captain Hook. However, this production from director Sally Cookson brings a wondrously inventive spin on the telling of Peter Pan and his story. The darkness of this fairy tale isn’t avoided but instead embraced. It focuses on its themes of loss and child abandonment, mortality and chaotic parenting.

This production doesn’t shy away from its Edwardian setting, which illuminates the sensibility of this era but with a refreshing hint of fantastical modernity. Visually, this show is not what you’d expect at all, from the vivid set and costume design to the unusual casting choices. It certainly gives a unique spin on a classic that you won’t want to miss.

Who are the creators behind this sell-out production?

The direction for this production comes from LAMDA graduate Sally Cookson. Once graduating she worked as an actor for ten years before embarking on her career as a freelance director. She has worked on productions for top theatres since, including London’s Old Vic, Bristol’s Old Vic, the National Theatre and the Rose Theatre Kingston. She is an associate artist at Bristol’s Old Vic where she worked on this production of Peter Pan which went on to have a sell-out run. She also worked on Jane Eyre, Sleeping Beauty, and Treasure Island, to name but a few. Cookson was also the director for the Olivier nominated production of A Monster Calls at the Old Vic London.
