What is the Youth Without God play about?

Youth Without God opens with a schoolteacher reprimanding his pupil for a racist remark he made in class. The student is swiftly accused of sabotaging the Fatherland. Soon a series of events begin to escalate and get out of hand, leading to cold-blooded murder. The teacher must make a decision on whether or not he plans to stand up against injustice, even if it means losing everything he's got.

A background of Odon von Horvath's Youth Without God novel

Youth Without God was written in 1938 by Odon von Horvath in exile after he had fled from the Nazis. In the well-received novel, Horvath depicts a world in turmoil where ruthless villains and collective pain and anguish numbed by a form of complacency, which remains just as relatable to readers today as it was in the 1930s. For his bestselling novel, Horvath was praised as "the most gifted writer of his generation" (Stefan Zweig) and was said to be "telling the truth, furiously" (Shalom Auslander). Don't miss this critically lauded book now a full-length stage play this autumn!
