What is John Godber's Angels of the North about?

The plot of Angels of the North centres on perhaps the wors taxi drivers the North has ever seen: Dennis and Mick. They're crass, ignorant, in your face, offensive, and rude beyond belief! But when their boss and longstanding owner Val unexpectedly kicks the bucket, they have to put up with her clever, streetsmart, tourism guru of a niece; the gutsy and spunky Roxy who only recently just graduated and has taken over the company.

Angels of the North takes place before, during, and after the ill-fated General Election of 12 December 2019 that defined the course of Brexit for good. The play takes a hilarious look into what it means to be a Northerner now that the red wall has fallen, all told from the perspective of a taxi firm struggling to stay afloat at the end of the line.

Dennis and Mick may just be the world's worst taxi drivers to ever sit behind the wheel, but they certainly know how to put the pedal to the metal in order to survive. Roxy may be a huge pain in the arse, but she could very well be an angel in disguise.

Angels of the North Trafalgar Studios cast and creative team

The Angels of the North West End cast stars John Godber himself in the role of Dennis alongside Adrian Hood as Mick and Martha Godber as Roxy. The play is written by Godber and directed by Jane Thornton. Further creatives will be announced in the coming weeks.

The play was written as a companion piece to the critical smash-hit, Scary Bikers, and it serves as a contemporary comedy that attempts to negotiate the notion of a new North under a new government, all told with Godber's signature witty style and dry observations that have made the playwright and actor so popular amongst lovers of theatre.
