Rags The Musical theatre tickets on sale for the Park Theatre run!

From rags to riches and from Manchester to London comes the revised new version of Joseph Stein’s Rags, which made its London premiere on 9 January 2020. Telling the touching and inspirational story of Jewish immigrants who journey to America in search of a new life, Rags The Musical hit London’s Park Theatre to play a strictly limited run that would be a shame to miss at the bottom of your laundry basket.

The West End transfer of Rags boasts a stupendous score from the same songwriters who brought you Annie and Wicked, Charles Strouse and Stephen Schwartz, while the Rags book comes from Joseph Stein, who is best known for writing the book for the iconic Fiddler On The Roof musical. Now after undergoing revisions by David Thompson (1996 Chicago revival) and with a warmly received UK premiere at the Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester under its belt, Rags The Musical is set to blow London audiences away this winter!

Rags The Musical tickets are expected to be in high demand, so be sure to snag your Rags tickets early before they all get cleaned up.

What is Rags The Musical about? Rags musical plot

Joseph Stein’s Rags musical is a story about unconditional love and undying hope as a group of Russian immigrants struggle to achieve the American dream. Straight from Ellis Island, a youthful mother and her son look for a new place where they can feel like home as the 20th century calls on them to make a new and prosperous life for themselves. Although the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, the grey concrete jungle of Manhattan’s Lower East Side is glistening with the music of positivity, aspiration, an opportunity.

Featuring the same vibrant, multicultural music that reverberated through the streets of New York in 1910, Rags The Musical is an unforgettable saga that takes us back to America’s haunting immigrant past as it explores the dark side of moving to a new world. Money, power, glory, love, strength, hope, loss, and disappointment all take centre stage to create a unique theatrical experience that is one for the ages.

The original Broadway production premiered on 21 August 1986 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on Broadway and was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical (Joseph Stein), Best Original Score (Strouse and Schwartz), Best Choreography (Ron Field), and Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical (Teresa Stratas). It was also nominated for four Drama Desk Awards and won one of them for Outstanding Actress in a Musical (Teresa Stratas).

The Rags musical original cast starred Dick Latessa as Avram Cohen, Judy Kuhn as Bella Cohen, Larry Kert as Nathan Hershkowitz, Lonny Price as Ben, Marcia Lewis as Rachel Halpern, Teresa Stratas as Rebecca Hershkowitz, and Terrence Mann as Saul, a trade union organiser.
