The Life I Lead with Miles Jupp

David Tomlinson is probably best remembered for his portrayal of Mr Banks, the straight-laced patriarch in Disney’s classic film Mary Poppins starring alongside Julie Andrews. He was celebrated for playing the classic English gentleman, proper, forthright and loveable, though a bit of a fool. He was also known for his role as the scampish Professor Emuelius Browne opposite Angela Lansbury in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and the dastardly Peter Thorndyke from The Love Bug. The actor’s personal life was as extraordinary and dramatic as any of the films he starred in featuring a distant and eccentric father with a secret to keep, a first marriage marked by tragedy and a heartbreaking discovery about one of his beloved children. This entrancing tale of fathers and sons across generations will fill in the blanks behind a face you thought you knew.
