Emma Frankland and Company present an exciting new theatre project that explores the real-life excavation of a giant hole, which was used as a literal representation of the queer community who felt in order to seek protection, they needed to bury themselves! This is a show that breaks the mould and catalyses the exploration of an important subject. Tickets for We Dig are in demand for its limited 2-week run beginning 5 October at The Ovalhouse so be sure to book yours whilst they’re available.

How did We Dig come about?

This all-new project began with Emma Frankland and the conversations that she had with trans women and trans feminine people worldwide; focusing mainly on those from the UK, Canada and Indonesia. This groundbreaking show literally saw an excavation at the historic Ovalhouse in order to create a huge and literal representation of the feelings of the queer community.

What is the We Dig project?

Emma Frankland and her special guests literally dig a hole, as well as digging deep into the Ovalhouse building history, taking complete control of the final season. We Dig focuses predominantly on trans artists, in particular, women and girls, and their stories. It communicates the situation they feel they universally experience and the elements they face on a global scale.

Who does We Dig come from?

Emma Frankland leads the project as well as the cast. She was involved in local drama groups from a young age before her drama school training. Frankland went to Central School of Speech and Drama before going on to studying a Masters in classical acting. She has been open about how her transitioning has influenced her work as she prefers to reflect on her experiences. This has seen her headlining Trans Pride Art Nights and collaborating to create projects that includes We Dig. Collaborated with other trans artists, this project sees the likes of Travis Alabanza (Burgerz – a 5-star sold-out show, London and Edinburgh), Morgan M Page (One From the Vaults host) and Indonesian celebrity and performance artist Tamarra.

We Dig has a changing company of trans femme performers with a different special guest each night!
