English National Opera's Orphée London opera tickets on sale now at affordable prices!

The English National Opera continues its association with Phillip Glass, following Satyagrapha and Olivier Award-winning Akhnaten. Tickets for Orphée will disappear as quick as the opera's fleeting and strictly limited run at the London Coliseum, which spans from 15 November to 29 November 2019.

What is Philip Glass's Orphée opera about?

Glass’ chamber opera, for which he also wrote the libretto, is based on the 1950 film by Jean Cocteau and tells a tale of the dangers of self-obsession. Orphée falls in love with an enigmatic princess despite already being married to Eurydice. He then goes on to move between the worlds of the living and dead, leading him to become obsessed with immortality.

Fragments of the 1950s Cocteau film are included via a mix of live action and projection thanks to the brilliant staging by director Netia Joneswho makes her ENO debut with this production. Also making his ENO debut is British conductor Geoffrey Paterson.

Who is starring in the Orphée opera this autumn 2019?

Leading the cast in the title role is Baritone Nicholas Lester (Marcello in La bohème) with Sarah Tynan (Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow) singing her second Eurydice of the season. Making her ENO debut as the Princess is 2018 Critics’ Circle Award recipient and soprano Jennifer France. Completing the cast are former ENO Harewood Artists Nicky Spence and Anthony Gregory.

Affordable tickets for the ENO's Orphée available now!

Tickets for the new production of Orphée are some among the hottest of the 2019/20 season at the West End's London Coliseum; its limited run beginning 15 November 2019. Following suit of the previous collaborations of Glass and ENO, this opera is likely to be just as acclaimed. Don't miss it!
