Hair the Musical will be coming to the Vaults in October 2017!
The Vaults, beneath Waterloo railway station, will be transformed into a "fully immersive 60s venue" for the show, and will also feature themed pop-up restaurants and vintage stalls. It will also host a post-show programme that includes club nights and film screenings. The production will be staged in a performance space for an audience of 200.
Celebrating its 50th Anniversary since its first Off-Broadway premiere, Hair has a book and lyrics by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, with music by Galt MacDermot.
Turned into a film in 1979 and directed by Milos Forman, Hair has gained its fame and is still until now one of the most popular musical films. The story follows a Vietnam War draftee who meets and befriends a tribe of long-haired hippies on his way to the army induction center. The hippies introduce him to their environment of cannabis, LSD, unorthodox relationships and draft evasion. musical war comedy-drama.
The show's producers said they had been overwhelmed by the reaction to the show in Manchester, and added: "We knew the Vaults and knew this continually topical and moving musical needed to be celebrated in London as it hits 50."
