It's been confirmed! Miss Saigon is returning to London's West End!

The beloved hit musical MISS SAIGON is returning to London's West End, it had been confirmed by Sir Cameron Mackintosh.  The new production of Miss Saigon will open at the Prince Edward Theatre in May 2014.

In its 25th anniversary year, Cameron Mackintosh will bring the Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg's musical bak into the West End.

One of the most successful musicals of all time, the love story set in the midst of the  Vietnam War is one of the most successful musicals of all time, seen by more than 35 million people worldwide.

The new production of MISS SAIGON will be a "re-imagined physical production" and really exciting for fans of the musical will be the addition of a new song by Boublil and Schonberg, entitled Maybe, sung by the character of Ellen in Act 2.

"The new production has taken a more gritty and realistic approach to the design than the operatic original but still delivers the power and epic sweep of Boublil and Schonberg's great score," Sir Cameron said when announcing the revival.

Miss Saigon has already toured the UK and internationally in recent years, but Sir Cameron said he was waiting for the perfect theatre to become available to bring it back to the West End.

In recent months, many rumours have been swirling in the West End and amongst theatre fans that the Prince Edward, current home of Jersey Boys would be where Miss Saigon would likely be staged. Today's news confirms just that.

Miss Saigon premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in 1989 and closed in 1999 after more than 4,000 performances.

Record-breaking runs in London and Broadway, mean Miss Saigon has been performed in 28 countries, more than 300 cities and in 15 different languages
In total 35 million people worldwide have seen the musical. Miss Saigon has also won more than 40 awards including two Olivier Awards and three Tony Awards.

We regularly ask our followers on Facebook, G+ and Twitter which show they would most like to see back in the West End and Miss Saigon always tops that list. Our #WeMissSaigon hashtag on Twitter has been the subject of many conversations and Sir Cameron confirmed that Miss Saigon was the musical he had the most requests to bring back, confirming that he thought now was the right time.

"If anything the tragic love story of Miss Saigon has become even more relevant today," Cameron said. "In the last 25 years our country has become involved in similar wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in the way we weren't in Vietnam and the American Dream has been buffeted by the reality of recent history."
