Matthew Beard, Carey Mulligan & Bill Nighy to star in Skylight at the Wyndham's Theatre

It has been confirmed that Stephen Daldry will direct Matthew Beard, Carey Mulligan and Bill Nighy in a major West End revival of David Hare’s Olivier award-winning play, Skylight.
Skylight begins previews at the Wyndham’s Theatre from Friday 6th June ahead of an official opening night on Wednesday 18th June. Skylight will run for a strictly limited season until Saturday 23rd August 2014.
Skylight premiered at the National Theatre in 1995, winning an Olivier Award for Best Play. The production went on to transfer to the West End and Broadway and received a West End revival in 1997.
On a bitterly cold London evening, schoolteacher Kyra Hollis receives an unexpected visit from her former lover, Tom Sergeant, a successful and charismatic restaurateur whose wife has recently died. As the evening progresses, the two attempt to rekindle their once passionate relationship only to find themselves locked in a dangerous battle of opposing ideologies and mutual desires.
Skylight has designs by Bob Crowley, lighting by Natasha Katz, sound by Paul Arditti and music by Paul Englishby.
Matthew Beard (Edward Sergeant) will make his stage debut in Skylight. On film he played Blake Morrison in And When Did you Last See Your Father? for which he was nominated for Best Newcomer at the British Independent Film Awards and the Evening Standard Film Awards. He starred alongside Carey Mulligan in An Education. Later this year he will be seen in the film adaptation of Laura Wade’s Posh, also directed by Scherfig, as well as The Imitation Game and Singularity.
Carey Mulligan (Kyra Hollis) will also make her West End stage debut in Skylight. She was last on stage in the Atlantic Theater Company’s 2011 production of Through A Glass Darkly at the New York Theater Workshop. She made her Broadway debut in Ian Rickson’s production of Chekhov’s The Seagull at the Walter Kerr Theater. Mulligan came to prominence on film in Nick Hornby’s An Education directed by Lone Scherfig for which she won multiple awards, including the 2010 Best Actress BAFTA.
Bill Nighy (Tom Sergeant) has won numerous awards internationally for his work on both stage and screen. Previously Nighy has performed in David Hare’s Pravda and Map of the World as well as the 1997 production of Skylight. He was also seen in the world premiere of Hare’s The Vertical Hour on Broadway. As well as Skylight, Nighy’s 2014 projects include I, Frankenstein, Pride and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel 2. He will also be reunited with David Hare for Turks & Caicos and Salting the Battlefield, the second and third instalments of The Worricker Trilogy television series.
