John Owen Jones Joins Emma Thompson & Bryn Terfel in Sweeney Todd

Posted on 5 February 2015

After last performing in the West End in 2011, John Owen Jones will return to the London stage in March to play the role of 'Pirelli' in the English National Opera production of Sweeney Todd.

The critically acclaimed "staged concert" production of Sweeney Todd was a sell out for its short run at the Lincoln Center in New York last year and will have a strictly limited run of 13 performances at the London Coliseum Theatre from March 30th to April 12th. John will join previously announced stars Bryn Terfel (Sweeney Todd), Emma Thompson (Mrs Lovett) and Philip Quast (Judge Turpin).

The show will be directed by Lonny Price and the musical director is David Charles Abell.

John is an award-winning and record-breaking West End and Broadway actor and singer - probably best known for his performances as Jean Valjean in Les Miserables and as The Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera.

Academy Award-winning actress Emma Thompson and international star Bryn Terfel reprise their roles as Mrs Lovett and Sweeney Todd in this concert staging of Stephen Sondheim’s gloriously gruesome musical Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.

Find out the macabre secret behind Mrs Lovett’s irresistibly delicious pies when this acclaimed staging comes to ENO in spring 2015, following sell-out performances at New York’s Lincoln Center.

English National Opera is thrilled to celebrate Sondheim’s 85th birthday with this thrilling semi-staged production of one of his most popular works.

Performed by an all-star cast and showcasing some of the composer’s most memorable melodies, this grisly entertaining tale at the London Coliseum is not to be missed!
