POTTED POTTER CELEBRATES 5TH ANNIVERSARY

Posted on 13 April 2011

Olivier award nominees Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner take their broomstickets and apparate onto the Garrick Theatre stage this summer for a limited West End run from 18th to 29th August of their first show, Potted Potter.

The former CBBC and Blue Peter presenters tell the story of JK Rowling's Harry Potter from all the stories totalling more than 4100 pages in just over an hour.  This tour is celebrating the show's 5th anniversary and comes to the West End after a run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

They first came up with the idea for their Potted shows when asked to create a five-minute performance for a bookshop to launch the sixth book in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series. Developed from those modest beginnings, Potted Potter has since been seen in the West End on three occasions and toured both in the UK and abroad.

Dan and Jeff have since returned to the West End with Potted Pirates and, last Christmas, Potted Panto, which collected a 2011 Olivier Award nomination for Best Entertainment.

Potted Potter features all the favourite characters, a special appearance from a very frightening fire-breathing dragon, and even a game of Quidditch involving the audience!

"sublimely potty and done with the lightest of touches, this daft two-man parody of JK Rowling's Harry Potter novels is a blissfully funny 75 minutes for anyone with a passing aquaintence with the boy wizard and He Who Must Not Be Named.  Like all good parodies, Dan and Jeff's 'Unauthorised Harry Experience' is both a send up and a heartfelt homage...in fact it is all terrific family entertainment, as performers and writers Daniel Clarkson and Jefferson Turner 'muggle' along with just the right mix of boyish exuberence and cack handed charm...a winner in every way." - The Guardian

The daytime show will be sharing the stage with Pygmalion starring Rupert Everett and Kara Tointon on at the Garrick Theatre from 12th May to 8th September.

Other kid friendly shows for all the family that will be on during school holidays helping to keep the children well entertained are David Wood's Storytime at The Arts Theatre from 19th to 22nd April and Judith Kerr's The Tiger Who Came to Tea at the Vaudeville Theatre previously the home for Potted Panto last Christmas from 6th July to 4th September.
