Jersey Boys is a brilliant show currently on in the West End; it’s fun packed, foot tapping and filled with recognisable hits that will guarantee an amazing night out.
For fans and music lovers of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, the show will tell the story, using their music, of how the band formed in the early days, and how they became America’s pop music sensation. They were four boys from the wrong side of town, who wrote their own songs, and made it to stardom so this musical is one emotional and uplifting journey.
Jersey Boys has become extremely popular, when it premiered in 2005 and is still going strong, making it the 25th longest running show on Broadway! Productions have been made in San Diego, Chicago, Las Vegas, Toronto, Melbourne, Sydney and of course London, at the Prince Edward Theatre.
The West End current cast hosts Ryan Molly, as Frankie Valli who is the original cast member since its opening in 2008. He is a British singer, songwriter and Actor and has appeared in a number of drama productions and musicals. You may best recognise him as the lead singer in Frankie Goes to Hollywood, when he replaced Holly Johnson.
The show as well as himself have won many awards over the recent years. Ryan won an award for Best Actor in a Musical, and the show won Best New Musical in 2008 with a Laurence Olivier award. In Broadway, the show received four Tony awards and a Grammy Award in 2005.
If you go to visit Jersey Boys, you won’t be disappointed, some of the hits you will expect to hear are; Sherry (their first number one hit), Big Girls Don’t Cry, Walk like a Man, December 1963 (oh what a night), Bye Bye Baby, and Can’t take my eyes off you.
Many people did not about the history of the band or how it originated, so this musical will hopefully answer all those questions!
The Jersey Boys is staged at The Prince Edward Theatre on Old Compton Street in Soho. So if you want to make a day and night out in London, it is perfectly located, amongst bars, restaurants and shops. Nearest tube station to the theatre is Leicester Square or Piccadilly Circus, and with tickets on sale until April 2012, there has never been a better time to visit The Jersey Boys!
