NEW LONDON THEATRE EVACUATED

Posted on 23 May 2011

The audience getting ready to enjoy the play War Horse at the New London Theatre in the West End had a bit of a scare this weekend when being evacuated due to a potential fire.

Thankfully the smoke found was likely due to an overheating electric motor and there was no actual fire.  The 500 audience members evacuated by the London Fire Brigade managed to take their seats to enjoy the multi-million production after a 45 minute delay and there was no damaged caused to the theatre or any of the award winning puppets that are an integral part of the play.

War Horse has seen huge success first at the National Theatre and then at it's current home at the New London Theatre with it's latest move being a New York production at the Lincoln Centre on Broadway.  The play opened earlier this year and has been a huge hit.  The play has been nominated for 12 Tony Awards and will receive a Special Tony Award for creating the show’s amazing life-sized puppets.
