BRIDGET JONES THE MUSICAL IN 2012?

Posted on 17 August 2011

Still there has been no official announcement of when the stage production of Bridget Jones the Musical will reach the West End, but it appears the workshop rehearsals are going well and the official announcement should be any day soon.

The musical production is being scripted by original writer of Bridget Jones' Diary, Helen Fieldman in collaboration with Stephen Daldry and Peter Darling of Billy Elliot fame.

Lily Allen has written 12 songs for the musical.  Helen Fielding has been quoted as saying, "It’s going to give a new perspective. Lily Allen has completed the songs and they’re fantastic. The music is a really catchy, unusual mixture of all different styles of music. I think people will love it.”  She has been praised by Elton John for taking on the job who called her "Britain's best lyricist".

Currently at workshop stage with Sheridan Smith in the role of Bridget Jones, rehearsals appear to be going well with the Helen Fielding tweeting to Sheridan Smith, ""You're a bloody genius, darling. You ARE Bridget Jones" and, more recently, "missed you too ... you were so fab".  Sheridan Smith herself says that if the workshop progresses to a West End production for next year then she will take on the role.

With huge West End success behind her for her award winning lead role in Legally Blonde and in Flare Path earlier this year it seems likely the announcement confirming her new role can't be far away!
