BEST ACTRESS WINNER SHERIDAN SMITH ATTENDS MATILDA THE MUSICAL

Recently the winner of the Best Actress Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for her role in Flare Path, Sheridan Smith has shown she is a bonafide theatre star since taking to the stage and winning numerous awards for the lead role in Legally Blonde The Musical.  Last night she took a night off and was in the audience for the press night of Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre.

The Roald Dahl classic recently won the award at the same ceremony for Best Musical and after a huge critical and commerical success at RSC Stratford is now transferred to the West End.

Sheridan Smith was not the only celeb enjoying a night out at the theatre.  Also in the audience was show writer Tim Minchin, Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, actor Timothy Spall and his fellow Harry Potter colleague Geraldine Somerville, Only Fools & Horses actor Nicholas Lyndhurst, comedian actress Ronni Ancona and The Full Monty actor Hugo Speer.

Sheridan may be back on the West End stage as soon as next year as she is widely accepted to be taking on the role of Bridget Jones in Bridget Jones The Musical if the show goes ahead.

Matilda The Musical tells the story Matilda Wormwood - a neglected yet bright little girl who realises she has the power of telekinesis.

The role of the main character is being shared by: Eleanor Worthington Cox, Cleo Demetriou, Kerry Ingram and Sophia Kiely.

Bertie Carvel play the female role of scary headteacher Miss Trunchbull Paul Kaye and Josie Walker have taken on the part as Matilda's parents.
