Heather Headley to star in new version of Whitney Houston musical The Bodyguard

The stage version of the 1992 movie The Bodyguard will feature Tony winner Heather Headley as Rachel Marron, the character played by the late Whitney Houston in the film now to be staged in the West End reportedly at the Adelphi Theatre

Heather Headley is a Tony Award winner who is best known for her performance in Aida and has also performed in the Lion King.

Producers have yet to announce who will play the role of secret service agent Frank Farmer played by Kevin Coster in the film.

Thea Sharrock will direct the stage production for the producers Michael Harrison and David Ian which has a book by American playwright Alexander Dinelaris (Zanna, Don't!).

In addition to the anthem “I Will Always Love You,” written by Dolly Parton, the movie features “I’m Every Woman,” “Run To You,” “I Have Nothing,” “Queen of the Night” and “Jesus Loves Me,” all sung by Houston. Additional numbers on the soundtrack include Joe Cocker’s “Trust In Me” and Soul System’s “It’s Gonna Be A Lovely Day.”

All the songs featured in the movie will reportedly be part of the stage production, as well as a dozen of Houston’s other hits.
