Will true love conquer all?
Adam Spreadbury-Maher and Becca Marriott present a completely new retelling of Puccini’s classic opera La Boheme.
Maybe you know Giacomo Puccini’s classic opera La Boheme which has become one of the most frequently performed operas in the world. The penniless poet Rodolfo falls madly in love with the consumptive embroiderer Mimi. Love, illness, poverty and death combine to make some of the most memorable moments in opera. Contemporary theatre fans are no doubt familiar with the Broadway smash hit RENT which was inspired by Puccini’s famous opera.
The story is set in not so distant past, 2016. Ralph meets Mimi in Dalston, London’s east end, and knows from the first moment it is love. When does passion become obsession? This story of romance and dependency takes a dark turn and the pressure of modern life threatens to derail their relationship.
Becca Marriott stars as Mimi. The role of Ralph will be shared by Matthew Kimble and Roger Paterson. Honey Rouhani plays Musetta while Matthew Palmer and Thomas Isherwood share the role of Mark. Lizzie Holmes will play both Mimi and Musetta. The show is being designed by Becky-Dee Trevenen and lighting is done by Nic Fairman.
This contemporary retelling of Puccini’s classic opera is being presented for an extremely limited run at Trafalgar Studios from 6 December 2017 to 6 January 2018.
