Join former Children's Laureate Michael Morpurgo and Olivier Award-winning designer Rae Smith, for a double bill of readings, art and music on Remembrance Sunday.
Discover how Rae Smith's designs for the internationally-acclaimed production of War Horse were originally created and watch as she brings her illustrations to life, in an on-stage demonstration of work from her new illustrated hard cover edition of War Horse. Award-winning author Michael Morpurgo joins Rae on stage, reading extracts from his beloved novel and sharing personal insights into the extraordinary journey from page to stage.
The second half of Anthems for Peace will be a reading by Michael Morpurgo of his book Best Christmas Present in the World with BAFTA award-winning actress Virginia McKenna. They will be accompanied by Voices at the Door (the six piece award-winning a capella group including Coope, Boyes and Simpson, Fi Fraser, Jo Freya and Georgina Boyes) singing Christmas carols from Britain, France and Flanders. A century after the famous Christmas Truce of 1914 and the football match in No-Man's Land between the British and the Germans, a soldier's letter is found by chance in an antique desk - "Jim's Last Letter: to be buried with me when the time comes." And thus begins the quest to find "Dearest Connie".
Don't miss this one-night-only event at the New London Theatre, Sunday 10th November 2013.
Best Christmas Present in the World is directed by Simon Reade.
