Newly adapted by Sean Foley and Phil Porter, Griff Rhys Jones will be joined by BAFTA and British Comedy Award winning comedian Lee Mack, who will be making his West End debut.

Fanatical about protecting his wealth, the paranoid Harpagon (Griff Rhys Jones) suspects all of trying to flinch his fortune and will go to any length to protect it. A matchmaker motivated only by money, he sets his sights on wealthy spouses for his children, so his riches are safe from their grubby hands. As true feelings and identities are revealed will Harpagon allow his children to follow their heart, or will his love of gold prove all-consuming? Passion and purse strings go head to head in this rip roaring comedy, by France’s greatest dramatist.

Actor, writer, presenter, comedian and two-time Olivier award-winner Griff Rhys Jones returns to the West End after five years where he is widely recognised as one of the country’s great comedic performers. He has most recently been seen on stage as Fagin in Cameron Mackintosh’s Oliver, and previously in Feydeau’s An Absolute Turkey.

Lee Mack is best known for his television and stand-up work. He is team captain on popular BBC panel show Would I Lie To You and a regular host on Have I Got News For You, Nevermind the Buzzcocks and 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Director Sean Foley who has recently enjoyed sell out success adapting and directing The Painkiller in the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company season of Plays at the Garrick. Further, he was the creator of Olivier Award-winning and Tony-nominated production of The Play What I Wrote (Best Comedy 2002), Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense (Best New Comedy 2014) and the multi Olivier-nominated The Ladykillers.

Mark Goucher has previously collaborated with Sean Foley on the hugely successful production of Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense which played in the West End and on tour and is currently under option for a Broadway season.

The Miser will be presented at Bath Theatre Royal and Richmond Theatre, prior to opening at the Garrick Theatre on Wednesday 1st March 2017, with an opening night on Monday 13th March 2017.
