Blood Brothers followers and supporters will be overjoyed to hear that the smash hit musical, is extending into 2012, making it one of the west ends longest un-interrupted musicals ever. With tickets on sale now, to November 2012, it comes as no surprise how successful the musical has been. The story of Blood Brothers will enter its 24th year in the West End. It debuted in 1983 at the Lyric theatre, and was played there for 5 years before transferring in 1988 to its current location, The Phoenix Theatre on Charing Cross Road, right in the heart of Theatreland. Blood Brothers tickets are still a popular purchase as this show never seems to end. Only 30 more years to catch up with The Mousetrap!

For those unaware of the storyline, Blood Brothers tells the captivating and moving tale of two twin brothers who are separated at birth and how the differences in upbringings send them on two completely separate paths. Fate brings the two brothers back to together and despite the overwhelming circumstances, they form a close friendship. Set in Liverpool, during the infamous coal miner strikes, the beginning sees a desperate mother in financial despair having to make the agonising decision of giving away one of her new born twins. Their paths are destined to cross again and anger, friendship and love for the same woman ultimately lead to the most tragic of consequences.

Over the years, the musical has seen an array of admired actors and actresses taking to the stage in some the lead roles. These include ex Spice girl Melanie Chisholm, who won Whats on Stage award for best take over in a role, Blue band member Anthony Costa, and to the most recent ex Atomic Kitten singer, Natasha Russell who plays Mrs Johnstone.

Written by Willy Russell, Blood Brothers has won numerous awards including Olivier Award for Best New Musical. The story has won hearts of regular theatre goers and critics alike, with many wanting to see the show over and over again.

Originally scheduled to end on the 26 November 2011, The Phoenix Theatre is excited to announce that the musical has been given an extension to run for a further 12 months! This is fantastic news for Blood Brothers fans and gives the opportunity for new audiences to catch one of the west ends best shows. At this rate the show may even enjoy its quarter century anniversary in 2013 – that's an awful lot of Blood Brothers tickets!
