BLOG : You Ain't Never Had A Friend Like... Aladdin At The Prince Edward Theatre Confirmed June 2016

Saturday 17 October 2015

By Shaun Nolan

Rumours have been flying around on a magic carpet for months and months speculating the arrival of Disney's latest theatrical event ALADDIN making its way into the Prince Edward Theatre in London following Miss Saigon taking its final flight next February (even I speculated about this on a blog post a while ago!) Well everyone, the day is finally here and Disney's ALADDIN has been confirmed for a West End run at the Prince Edward Theatre with tickets going on sale soon.

Previews start May 27th at the renowned London theatre owned by the show's London producer Cameron Mackintosh - official opening night is set for June 9th. To add to this amazing mix, Trevor Dion Nicholas who is Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart's standby in the Broadway production will take centre stage as the Genie. Further casting is yet to be announced.

Don't know what on Earth Disney's Aladdin is even about? Aladdin follows the titular character's journey from rags to riches as he finds love in the Princess Jasmine, all while working off of three wishes he's been given by the Genie. The Evil Jafar is there to stop Aladdin from succeeding, but who wins at the end of the day? Featuring hit songs like "A Whole New World", "Arabian Nights" and "Friend Like Me", the original animated classic was a box office success in the 1990s and the stage show has already been a major success on Broadway.

Shaun grew up listening to the cast recordings of musical theatre treasures like Miss Saigon and Cats before finding his own feet at a young age and exploring a wide breadth of musicals and shows by himself. Now that he's older and wiser, he loves nothing more than taking very regular trips down to London's West End to soak up the pure magic that he loves so much... and then coming home and sharing it with you on his own blog and London Theatre Direct.
