Exciting Times Ahead For The West End… 10 Must-See Shows Headed For London's Theatreland

Posted on 9 May 2016

It seems like a week doesn’t go by without another exciting West End announcement happening, so I thought I would give you a little run down on what’s happening to keep you up to speed…

1. An American In Paris

You heard me, the show that stole Broadway’s heart is sailing across to the West End in 2017, with the Broadway cast intact. Inspired by the film of the same name and featuring music from George and Ira Gershwin, it’s sure to win over London audiences too! An American In Paris tickets are on sale now, and it begins at The Dominion in March 2017.

2. Cinderella

Christmas in the West End is upping its game, as after nearly three decades away from it The Palladium is hosting a pantomime (in which it used to be known for it’s panto legacy), and it’s none other than the iconic Cinderella. Which is a story of happy ever after we all know and love. Casting is to be confirmed, but there are many rumours floating around, including Britney Spears being in the potential line-up! It runs from 9th December to 15th January 2017 and tickets are on sale now, so make this festive season a memorable one.

3. Show Boat

This classic Oscar Hammerstein II musical has just officially opened at The New London Theatre to brilliant reviews, and it a powerful story of freedom, loyalty, and above all, love. Currently booking through till January, it seems to be going down well!

4. Dreamgirls

The show that’s filled with glitz and glamour, and inspired by 1960s American RnB, will be taking over the Savoy in November.

5. The Bodyguard

After a few months away from the West End, and a successful UK tour, the romantic thriller featuring music from Witney Houston, The Bodyguard will hit The Dominion with previews starting 15 July.

6. American Idiot

Returning this summer, after it’s successful run in the West End last year and UK tour. This time though, while Amelia Lily is still in the cast, they’ve also got singer Newton Faulkner on board. The story is about three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9/11 world, with the music of Green Day to guide you through.

7. Murder Ballad

This October for a limited run, the Arts Theatre will be taking on a new musical, Murder Ballad, which is starring the stage favourite Kerry Ellis.

8. Finding Neverland

The story of how J M Barrie created Peter Pan that has tracks penned by our very own Gary Barlow. After seeing great success on Broadway, Finding Neverland will be flying out on a US tour later in 2016 and will be coming our way in 2017. I love the story of Peter Pan, I love the music and it won’t be too much longer until the West End gets a look into the world of J.M Barrie and his tale of Peter Pan.

9. School Of Rock

Also mentioned in one of my other recent blog (see here), this Andrew Lloyd Webber take on the iconic film will also be coming our way in 2017.

10. Hamilton

A show that we’ve all heard about, it’s taken Broadway by storm and yes, it’s actually coming to the West End in 2017. Information about the Hamilton West End transfer is limited still at the moment, but keep your eyes peeled as there’s bound to be something announced soon!
