Review: Katie Brayben Is A Phenomenal New Talent In Beautiful http://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/1611/Review--Katie-Brayben-Is-A-Phenomenal-New-Talent-In-Beautiful.aspx

I felt extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to see this show in its official opening weeks thanks to London Theatre Direct.

Having been extremely successful on Broadway, Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of Carole King's remarkable rise to startdom. From being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann. Along the way, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

REVIEW: What's So Great About Miss Saigon? http://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/1607/REVIEW--What-s-So-Great-About-Miss-Saigon-.aspx

This week, I had another opportunity to see the award-winning new production of Miss Saigon at the Prince Edward Theatre, and I was reminded once again why I fell in love with it the first time (and the second time). It would be far, far quicker to explain what’s not great about it… but a review that just says ‘nothing’ wouldn’t make for very interesting reading. So let’s give this a go!

REVIEW: 13 Times And Miss Saigon Isn't Unlucky For Anyone http://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/1606/REVIEW--13-Times-And-Miss-Saigon-Isn-t-Unlucky-For-Anyone.aspx

Regular readers of mine will know that I have a minor obsession with a few musicals. Ok, a major obsession. Miss Saigon is one of them. I've seen the show twelve times and know all of the words from both the original production and the new one. I was even one of the lucky few to get tickets for the 25th Anniversary Gala back in September which saw the fabulous original Kim, Lea Salonga and other members of the 80's cast join the wonderful new ensemble for a celebration of all things Saigon.

Kerry Ellis Is The Cat's Whiskers At The London Palladium http://www.londontheatredirect.com/news/1602/Kerry-Ellis-Is-The-Cat-s-Whiskers-At-The-London-Palladium.aspx

After watching Cats The Musical for the first time as a teenager I have always felt a huge amount of affection for this clever and innovative show. I still have an original eighties t-shirt and poster along with the cassette of the soundtrack which has now been played so many times over the years, it's got a bit stretched in places.

Over 26 years on, the late Stephen Mallatratt’s cherished stage adaptation of Susan Hill’s novel remains a Theatreland treasure.

Stephen Mallatratt adapted Susan Hill’s horror novel for the Christmas season at Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre in 1987, under the wing of the great Alan Ayckbourn. Its downright brilliance saw its transfer to the West End in a little over a year after it premiered.
