From Broadway With Love! The Current Must-See Broadway Transfers In The West End
Posted on 8 December 2015
With the recent announcement of Miss Saigon transferring back to Broadway after it finishes its West End run in February, now is a fabulous time to reflect on all the Broadway transfers on our Theatreland doorsteps...
One Broadway transfer that has a lot of people excited is Aladdin, which is set to arrive at the Prince Edward Theatre (currently the home of Miss Saigon) in 2016. The show will be starring Dean John- Wilson as Aladdin himself and ex-Sugarbabe Jade Ewen as Princess Jasmine. Broadway cast member Trevor Dion Nicholas will make his London stage debut as Genie after playing the role on Broadway.
Another exciting transfer to the West End is the incredible Funny Girl starring Sheridan Smith. This show, which has recently extended its run, is definitely not to be missed. It tells the story of the life of Fanny Brice - Broadway performer, film actress and comedienne. The leading role is set to be played by the incredible Sheridan Smith, alongside Darius Campbell playing the part of Nick. Featuring some incredible music, including the well known song 'Don't Rain on My Parade', this is a fabulous show guaranteed to brighten up any wet British weekend!
There are a few shows currently playing on the West End that were Broadway transfers not long ago. One of these is Kinky Boots at the Adelphi Theatre. This show opened on Broadway in 2013 and previewed in London earlier this year. With music and lyrics written by Cyndi Lauper, this is a fun, upbeat show that really gets you in the dancing mood! This is one I would certainly recommend!
And finally, we have to mention a show that is set to go back to Broadway in Spring 2017 and finishes its west end run in February this year. Mr Mackintosh is also planning to take leading lady Eva Nobelzada and one of the leading men, Jon Jon Briones along with him to the States. We'll all be sad to see the show take flight, so get your Miss Saigon tickets before it's too late. We'll Miss Saigon!
