The musical that inspired new generations to don leg-warmers and leotards, leap atop taxis and “light up the sky like a flame” is back by popular demand! FAME THE MUSICAL returns to the West End for a strictly limited Summer Season at the Shaftesbury Theatre, opening on Tuesday 8 May, following previews from Friday 4 May.
FAME THE MUSICAL has established itself as one of the country’s most successful theatrical productions. Premiered in the West End in June 1995 and nominated for two Olivier Awards, the stage spectacular enjoyed a hugely successful decade in London. The show closed in London in Spring 2006, before taking to the road on it’s current sell out UK tour.
Over 4 million people have enjoyed the eternally inspiring story of the kids from New York’s School for the Performing Arts. Always recruiting the freshest young talent, each cast of over 30 electric performers has wowed the crowds as they rocket through phenomenal dance routines and unforgettable songs, including the legendary Fame.
FAME THE MUSICAL will star Natalie Casey and Ian H Watkins. Natalie Casey is well known for her starring roles as ‘Donna’ in the BBC’s Two Pints of Larger & a Packet of Crisps and as ‘Carol Groves’ in Hollyoaks. Alongside a busy schedule of presenting and radio dramas, her theatre work includes Hobson’s Choice (Watermill Theatre) and Vagina Monologues (Palace Theatre, Manchester). Natalie was most recently seen as ‘Shepherd’ in The Flint Street Nativity (Playhouse Theatre, Liverpool).
Ian H Watkins is best known as one fifth of the hugely successful band STEPS, who had 15 Top Ten hits. In 2004 Ian was nominated for a Theatregoers Choice Award for the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. He went on to graduate from The Royal Academy of Music with a Distinction. Recent theatre work includes Before Bristol (The Old Red Lion Theatre). Ian also appeared as a housemate in the Spring 2007 series of Celebrity Big Brother.
