The creative team for the end of history... at the Royal Court Theatre

the end of history... is directed by Associate Director of the Royal Court Theatre, John Tiffany. The new play features sound by Tom Gibbons, design by Grace Smart, lighting by Jack Knowles, and movement by Steven Hoggett.

John Tiffany is perhaps best known for his work on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which won him both a Tony and Olivier Award for Best Director of a Play. He has also received a Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for Once and an Olivier Award for Best Director for Black Watch.

What is the end of history...about?

the end of history..., which won an Edgerton Foundation New Play Award, takes place in Newbury in 1997. Sal is trying to cook supper for her family. She and her husband, David, have managed to bring their children home together for the weekend. Their oldest son, Carl, is bringing home his new girlfriend to meet the family for the first time; the middle daughter, Polly, has returned from Cambridge University for the reunion; and the youngest son, Tom, will hopefully get released from detention early enough for dinner time.

Sal and David would much rather feed their offspring with liberal ideals and welfarism than luxurious cuisine. Of course, when you've named each of your kids after a famous socialist figure, you've put them under a lot of pressure to live up to their names. They may have no talent at all when it comes to cooking an edible and delicious meal, but they certainly have Olympian talent when it comes to annoying their children.

"When I was your age, I wanted to be a groupie and shag Jimi Hendrix and Mick Jagger, so who am I to judge you on your poor life choices?"
