The Royal Shakespeare Company, in collaboration with Joe Hisaishi, Nippon TV and Improbable, has announced a final extension for the multi-award-winning stage adaptation of Studio Ghibli’s [*My Neighbour Totoro*](https://www.londontheatredirect.com/play/my-neighbour-totoro-tickets). The production will now run in the West End until 10 January 2027, after which it will conclude its acclaimed London run.
Since its premiere, the production has become one of the most celebrated theatrical events in recent years, earning six Olivier Awards and five WhatsOnStage Awards, and breaking box office records during its original Barbican run before transferring to the Gillian Lynne Theatre. Adapted by Tom Morton-Smith and directed by Improbable co-founder Phelim McDermott, the show brings Hayao Miyazaki’s beloved 1988 film to life through inventive staging and extraordinary puppetry.
Set in rural Japan, the story follows two sisters who discover a hidden world of forest spirits after moving to the countryside to be closer to their unwell mother, with the mysterious Totoro at its heart.
