Based on Luke Harding's gripping novel of the scandalous events behind the death of Russian spy, Alexander Litvinenko, the world premiere of Lucy Prebble's A Very Expensive Poison is set to open at the Old Vic on 19 August 2019 for a strictly limited engagement.
A Very Expensive Poison tickets are now available and thanks to the show's premature announcement as part of the Old Vic's Fourth Season before being delayed for the venue's Fifth Season, the buzz for this new play has been building up, which is why you'll want to be among the first to book the best seats and prices while stocks last!
Award-winning playwright and writer of the wildly popular series Secret Diary of a Call Girl Lucy Prebble tells of the notorious assassination of Alexander Litvinenko. Based on Guardian journalist Luke Harding’s book of the same name, A Very Expensive Poison brings a world of whistleblowing, defection, espionage, revenge and politics to the Off-West End stage.
For more information about Lucy Prebble's first new play in seven years, read our blog on the Top 7 Facts You Should Know About A Very Expensive Poison at The Old Vic.
Alexander Litvinenko was a former officer of the Russian FSB and KGB who defected and became a naturalised British citizen. He worked as a writer, journalist and consultant for British Intelligence Services and was outspoken in his opposition to Vladimir Putin and his government, openly accusing them of staging bombings and other acts of terrorism to bring about Putin’s rise to power and orchestrating the murder of Russian journalists.
In November of 2006, Litvinenko fell seriously ill and was hospitalized. He would never leave the confines of the hospital again. He died less than a month later, the first confirmed victim of polonium 210-induced acute radiation syndrome. Follow the twists and turns that prove that fact is often stranger than fiction.
The upcoming bone-chiller play is directed by John Crowley and features set and costume design by Tom Scutt, sound design by Paul Arditti, lighting design by Mimi Jordan Sherin, composition by Paddy Cuneed, video by Ewan Jones Morris, choreography by Aletta Collins, voice coaching by Charles Hughe's D'aeth, dialect coaching by Penny Dyer, and casting by Jessica Ronane.
The cast was recently announced for the world premiere of A Very Expensive Poison showing at London's Old Vic Theatre. Game of Thrones actor Tom Brooke will lead the cast as Alexander Litvinenko. He is joined by MyAnna Buring (The Twilight Saga) as Marina Litvinenko, Peter Polycarpou as Boris Bereszovsky, Michael Shaeffer as Andrei Luguvoi, Lloyd Hutchinson as Dimitri Kotvun, Reece Shearsmith as The President, and Gavin Spokes as DI Hyatt.
