A haunting Pulitzer Prize-winning contemporary opera that fuses chamber music, electronica, cabaret and spoken word into an unsettling exploration of innocence, power and exploitation. When two angels fall to earth, a struggling couple take them in, believing they’ve been given a miracle, but what begins as care quickly mutates into control, violence and moral decay.
Staged as a UK premiere by English National Opera in collaboration with Factory International and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, this immersive production is directed by Kip Williams and transforms the London Coliseum into a multi-layered world of surveillance, projection and psychological intensity. Angel’s Bone is a rare chance to experience one of the most daring operas of the 21st century on a major UK stage this October.
Two angels fall to earth and are taken in by a desperate couple who soon begin to exploit them for personal gain. What starts as compassion turns into coercion, as the couple clip their wings and use them for fame, fortune and survival. Winner of the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for Music, Du Yun and Royce Vavrek’s Angel’s Bone is a genre-defying opera tackling modern slavery and human trafficking through an experimental, emotionally charged score.
