Visionaries: Robbins and MacMillan brings together two landmark 20th-century ballet works in a powerful mixed programme exploring humanity, community and connection. Featuring Jerome Robbins’s Dances at a Gathering alongside Kenneth MacMillan’s Song of the Earth, this double bill offers two profoundly different yet equally compelling visions of the human experience.
This mixed programme pairs two of the most influential choreographers of the 20th century. Dances at a Gathering (1969) by Jerome Robbins is a series of abstract, characterful dances set to Fryderyk Chopin’s piano pieces, capturing fleeting moments of human connection in an atmosphere of spontaneity and warmth.
Song of the Earth (1965) by Kenneth MacMillan offers a stark contrast in tone and scale, drawing on Gustav Mahler’s symphonic song cycle and ancient Chinese poetry to explore mortality, impermanence and emotional transformation through sculptural, expressive movement.
Children under the age of five are not permitted into the theatres. Children over age of five must have their own ticket and sit next to an accompanying adult.
