The world’s longest-running American musical, the multi-award-winning CHICAGO, returns to London’s West End. starring Martin Kemp, from pop legends Spandau Ballet and BBC’s Eastenders, as Billy Flynn until 1 September, he will be joined by stage veterans Sarah Soetaert as Roxie Hart, Josefina Gabrielle as Velma Kelly, and Mazz Murray playing Mama Morton.
Roxy Hart has always wanted to be a star but can’t quite seem to catch a break. Things seem poised to change when she is arrested for the murder of her lover. Roxy decided to become the media’s new darling and begins vying for the spotlight, and the attention of their lawyer Billy Flynn played by Cuba Gooding Jr., with her idol, nightclub performer and accused double-murderess Velma Kelly.
Chicago has won 6 Tony Awards, 2 Olivier Awards and a Grammy as well as spawning a Best Picture Academy Award-winning film adaptation. Bob Fosse who, along with Fred Ebb, wrote the book originally choreographed and directed the show. Fosse’s unmistakable style is still evident in the Ann Reinking’s new choreography.
