What is The Band's Visit about?
Broadway musical The Band's Visit is based on the 2007 Eran Kolirin film of the same name and tells the tale of an eight-member Egyptian band that is invited to perform at the Arab Cultural Centre in Israel. When the band arrives in Zion, however, their womanising leader Haled becomes distracted with an attractive ticket lady and instead of booking bus tickets to Petah Tiqva, he ends up booking tickets to the similarly pronounced town of Beit Hatikvah.
As the bus pulls up into this desolate desert town, the locals appear unenthused by their visit and the band realises their blunder. Since no more buses are leaving that day, the men are forced to stay in Beit Hatikvah for the night. But, perhaps under the spell of the magical desert sky, the town's inhabitants begin to take pity on the band and warm up to their visitors. Bringing the dead-end town to life, the band begins to liven up the town amidst roller discos, canteens, and family houses. This offbeat yet upbeat musical set in the middle of nowhere off the beaten path will warm your heart and soothe your soul.
Featuring such fan-favourite musical numbers as the penultimate 'Answer Me', 'Welcome to Nowhere', 'Haled's Song About Love', and many more, you will no doubt be blown away by this feel-good musical. Give the cast recording of The Band's Visit a listen and get ready for the hit musical's potential visit to London's West End.
