Since it came to our screens and stole our hearts, Freaky Friday has taken the world by storm and is nothing short of a cult classic. The wonderfully bizarre tale of a mother and daughter, who couldn’t be more different, and who one day inexplicably exchange bodies, has had London theatre fans wondering for an age - will a Freaky Friday musical ever come to the West End?
Most of us have seen it brought to life in the beloved film starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, but, for now, here’s a little bit about the musical version below.
Based on the beloved 1972 novel Freaky Friday (1972 novel), the musical adapts the classic story made famous by the films starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis. The story returned to screens with the 2025 sequel film, Freakier Friday, showing how enduring the concept remains.
The stage musical - which played in Manchester in late 2025 - brought the body-swapping chaos to life with contemporary songs, comedy, and family-friendly storytelling that continues Disney’s theatrical tradition.
Freaky Friday (musical) follows teenager Ellie and her mother Katherine as they magically swap bodies one life-changing Friday. Forced to experience each other’s lives, they discover new empathy and understanding before Katherine’s wedding day arrives.
The show is perfect for families, Disney fans, and anyone who enjoys feel-good musical comedy with emotional warmth and energetic songs.
