What is The Boy Friend musical?

Sandy Wilson’s 1953 musical is an ode to the 1920s. This musical comedy is returning to London more than a decade after its incredibly successful runs at Regent Park’s Open Air Theatre. Madame Dubbonet has a finishing school near Nice. The young women who attend her school are full of hope, song and plenty of dances. These young ladies are constantly serenading or being serenaded by their boy friends, who are likely to pop out of the French windows for a song and dance routine.

The ladies of the finishing school are determined to have fun with their dates at the fancy dress ball. Polly is in despair because she’s the only one of her friends without a date to the ball, when she meets Tony, the delivery boy and romance begins to bloom. Polly and Tony both have secrets they need to keep and when Lord and Lady Brockhurst arrive on the scene, it seems that secrets will be revealed.

This light-hearted musical has delighted audiences around the world and has earned itself a place among Britain’s most beloved musicals of all time.
