The cult-hit film Coyote Ugly is set to make its West End stage debut in 2027, with Jamie Wilson Productions and Nederlander Studios bringing the iconic story of the New York saloon to life as a musical.

The 2000 film, directed by David McNally and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, became an instant cult classic, grossing over $113 million worldwide. It was inspired by Elizabeth Gilbert’s 1997 GQ article, The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon, chronicling her time as a bartender at the famed bar.

The musical will feature original songs by Diane Warren, the 16-time Academy Award-nominated songwriter behind the film’s hits including Can’t Fight the Moonlight, Please Remember, The Right Kind of Wrong and But I Do Love You. Warren will also create new material exclusively for the stage.

Gina Wendkos, who wrote the original screenplay, will co-write the book with Olivier Award-winning writer Vikki Stone (Caroline, Hey Duggee). Direction and choreography will be led by multi-Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell (The Devil Wears Prada, Kinky Boots, Legally Blonde), following his recent West End successes.

Diane Warren said, “I’ve been waiting over 20 years for a Coyote Ugly musical. The movie and soundtrack are guilty pleasure classics, and now audiences can enjoy a fun, new theatrical version.”

Producers are promising a high-energy production that combines the heat and heart of the original story with fresh songs for a new generation.
