Who is Pablo Manzi?

Pablo Manzi is an award-winning writer from Chile. He is fast becoming one of the most substantial new voices in Chile and with the help of translator William Gregory, is set to rise through the ranks of playwrights in Britain too! Having won various awards for Best Playwright, it’s only understandable that the Royal Court Theatre wanted to work with Manzi in developing his dark comic play.

What is Manzi’s A Fight Against… about?

Manzi’s play takes you along for a journey, his journey, across America. A lecturer in Chile, a study group in the USA, a torture instructor in Argentina, a hangman in Mexico and a woman who won’t stop dancing in Paraguay. Travelling across the Americas, this play explores whether violence brings us closer together and the measures it takes for us to have the ability to disregard others and walk on by on the other side of the street.

Who will direct Manzi’s dark comedy?

The Royal Court’s Associate Director (International) Sam Pritchard will direct A Fight Against… As the international associate at the West End's Royal Court, it is Pritchard’s job to work with international playwrights, which varies from discussing new works, developing and directing them. In 2012, Pritchard won the JMK Award for Directors. His previous credits include The Mysteries (Royal Exchange, Manchester and Tour), Pity (Royal Court), Grimly Handsome (Royal Court) and Fireface (Young Vic).

Developed in residence at the Royal Court Theatre and supported by the British Council, Pablo Manzi’s English-language debut is something to be seen, listened to, and learned from. A Fight Against… West End tickets will take you on a journey so be sure to book for this limited run spanning from 20 May 2020 to 20 June 2020.

Tickets go on sale in October 2019 but you can sign up to our mailing list to be notified closer to the time… we wouldn’t want you to miss out!
