After her most recent piece, Escaped Alone, made a splash at the Royal Court Theatre with a fleet of five-star reviews, Caryl Churchill has returned to the West End venue to premiere her all-new quadruple bill, Glass. Kill. Bluebeard. Imp.
The synopsis for Caryl Churchill's four-in-one show remains stylishly vague yet undoubtedly captivating nonetheless. Witness a girl made out of glass, deities and bloody murders, and the friends of a serial killer à la Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.
Glass. Kill. Bluebeard. Imp. will be directed by James Macdonald, whose latest works for the West End's Royal Court Theatre include The Wolf From The Door, Escaped Alone, One For Sorrow, and The Children.
Caryl Churchill is a London-born playwright whose writing style is characterised by non-naturalistic devices, dramatisations of power abuse, sexploitation in politics, and feminism. Caryl Churchill is a frequent collaborator for London's Royal Court with a good number of her plays having received their premieres at the London venue. Her best-known plays Far Away, A Number, and Top Girls are now widely considered to be modern-day classics. The Guardian recently praised Churchill for reconstructing the landscape of contemporary dramas, going on to list her as one of the literary greats of our time.
