Michael Hastings’s play is a fictional story inspired by fact. It weaves a tapestry rich with history, language and family, offering a magical glimpse into the early years of one of the greatest European writers of the last century.
It is 1928 and a young Samuel Beckett arrives in Paris. Penniless, Sam's career appears to be going nowhere until he is introduced to the unusual Joyce family - James Joyce, his wife Nora Barnacle and their two children, Lucia and Giorgio. As family secrets threaten to overwhelm them two vulnerable young people embark upon an extraordinary love affair, which takes them to the very brink of insanity.
