Project Juno is a one woman show about Helen Sharman’s remarkable story of becoming the First Briton in Space.
By Rachael Halliwell.
In association with Harrogate Theatre.
Sheffield born, Helen was a flavour chemist for the Mars confectionery company.
She was driving home from work and heard a competition announced on her car stereo: Astronaut wanted: no experience necessary.
A life changing moment and a decision she would never regret.
Her resilience and determination set her apart from her fellow competitors and she went through eighteen months of intensive tests and training to prepare for the mission. From extensive research and moments of dramatic imagining, Project Juno aims to firmly establish her place as a great woman in history.
Following on from the Women in the Arts Festival scratch night and work in progress performances at Tristan Bates Theatre in London, Project Juno made its premiere in the Harrogate Theatre Studio. Rachael's previous solo shows include Deirdre & Me which toured nationally to critical acclaim. As a Yorkshire lass she is delighted to be an associate artist of Harrogate Theatre.
