Selina Thompson's critically acclaimed play salt. is set to run at the Jerwood Upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre for a strictly limited run. What is the Royal Court's salt. play about?
It's a long, hard road to the seabed of the Atlantic.
It's winter 2016. Two artists embarked on a cargo ship to plot the routes of Transatlantic Slave Triangle from the UK to Ghana then to Jamaica and back. Their questions, memories, and grief led them to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean and into a magical realm of an imaginary. It was a long trip to the past in order to move into the future. This play is what the two explorers brought back.
We all think we are on a journey and that life itself is a journey. But we are home from the very beginning and it's not an easy concept to grasp.
