English National Ballet: Romeo and Juliet at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre this summer!

See Shakespeare’s heartbreaking tale paired with Nureyev’s blazing ballet. English National Ballet brings the world’s greatest love story to Royal Festival Hall with Rudolf Nureyev’s passionate choreography and Prokofiev’s exhilarating score performed live by English National Ballet Philharmonic.

Sumptuous costumes and sets transport you to Renaissance Verona: a piazza bustling with market traders, street entertainers and the restless factions of the Capulet and Montague families.

Amid the grandeur of the Capulet ball, our star-crossed lovers meet, unleashing a fateful sequence of events, from the romantic bedroom scene to their tragic final embrace.

Full of action, humour and drama, Nureyev’s award-winning production of Romeo and Juliet was created especially for English National Ballet in 1977 to celebrate the Queen’s Silver Jubilee. The Company has since performed it worldwide to critical acclaim.

‘Powerfully atmospheric’ (The Observer)

Very disappointed. Seen many ballets some by English national ballet. Artists costumes too much which prevented audience seeing ballet moves Not enough difference between two families and the main characters did not stand out enough We did not stay til the end!

Disappointing performance with very little atmosphere or passion.

My husband and I went to see the ballet last night. The tickets were sent to me directly with no problems. Our seats were perfect and we loved Romeo and Juliette, a superb performance. My only minor criticism was that it would have been better to have one interval instead of two as 3hrs was rather long for us.

Loved the venue, thought the production was danced beautifully. However, I gave to agree with some of Critics that the production looked a bit dated. But fabulous music and people giving their all made a great night out.
