Bedknobs and Broomsticks Musical was announced to be making its world premiere in the latter half of 2021. The Disney film adaptation will be opening in Newcastle, UK, with details from the producers regarding tour and potential London transfer to be announced.

Will Bedknobs and Broomsticks The Musical open in the West End?

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is being adapted for the stage, making its world premiere in Newcastle before heading out on a UK tour, with a possible West End run following. The Disney Musical would join the likes of The Lion King and Mary Poppins in the West End.

What is Bedknobs and Broomsticks about?

Bedknobs and Broomsticks is set during the Blitz and follows the story of the three Rawlins children who along with many others have been evacuated from wartime London and to the countryside. The Rawlins children are assigned to live with Eglantine Price who they later discover is a witch in training. When the dangers of the war come creeping ashore, they join forces to defeat the enemy. This magical adventure will take you from Portobello Road to the bottom of the beautiful briny sea, discovering fantasy and surprising friendships along the way.

The Disney film was released in 1971 and starred Angela Lansbury as Eglantine Price alongside David Tomlinson as Emelius Brown. The film Bedknobs and Broomsticks features music by the Sherman Brothers, including popular favourites such as ‘Portobello Road’ and ‘The Age of Not Believing’.

Bedknobs and Broomsticks Musical Creative Team

The creative team for the musical adaptation of Bedknobs and Broomsticks will have a book by Brian Hill and include original music from the Sherman Brothers. There will be new music and lyrics by Neil Bartram. The musical will be directed by Candice Edmunds and Jamie Harrison, with scenic design by Jamie Harrison, costume design by Gabriella Slade, sound design by Gareth Fry, lighting design by Simon Wilkinson and choreography by Neil Bettles.

Casting is yet to be announced for the new Disney musical.
